Nouveau Renaissance Objects

Nouveau Renaissance is a series of objects that carry narratives of cultural heritage. Rooted in form, pattern, memory, and material, the objects come to life as furniture positioned between function and art. The first object in the series, titled Cérémonie, is set to launch in spring 2026.

Cérémonie — Charred Oak
Cérémonie in its original edition is crafted from charred solid oak and finished with a softly, joyful contoured seat upholstered in 100% Swedish-woven wool.

Cérémonie — Brushed Steel
Cérémonie in brushed steel is formed from 5 mm solid steel and upholstered with the same precisely shaped seat in 100% wool.

The Cérémonie stool is shaped by an encounter between West African craftsmanship and the Scandinavian design tradition. Through this dialogue, rhythm and structure converge to form a contemporary identity.

So I found myself sitting on the floor of my living room, staring at a drum my mother, Ayelevi, bought for my children when she returned from a trip to Togo a few years ago. It rests on a chest of drawers designed by Marit Stigsdotter for Stolab in the early 2000s, a gift from my mother-in-law, Katarina.

The drum, shaped in a gently tapering silhouette with a subtly flared, trumpet-like base, is carved from a single piece of solid wood. Its surface is marked with light, abstract ornaments, and it is topped with tightly stretched goatskin, secured by braided cords.

Holding and looking at the drum evokes a familiar sense of double belonging, a feeling I now recognize as central to everything I’ve been trying to grasp in my creative process.

I take in the contrast between the drum, with its soft, rounded form and richly adorned craftsmanship, and the chest of drawers in white-soaped birch: clean lines, Swedish fine craftsmanship, discreetly elegant. Beautiful together.

How do I describe this feeling?”
